Air Tech Solutions

Air Tech Solutions was set up in response to the need to comply with part L1a of Building Regulations (2006 edition). This deals with the need for house builders to have air tightness reports and testing carried out. The service aims to be cost effective and well organised when it comes to servicing the construction sector, and its partners are highly experienced at both the practical and management aspects of this field.

Through a third party approved scheme pertaining to air tightness Wrexham of dwellings, the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) administrates work carried out by Air Tech Solutions, with the provision of both management and technical expertise by the Air Tightness Testing and Measurement Association (ATTMC), which reports to the Council of the Institute.

What is an air tightness test?

A pressurisation test is carried out in order to ascertain how much air flow is required to maintain excess air pressure of some 50 pascals (Pa). All chimneys and flues are sealed, and a fan is set up in the main entranceway of the home to establish this.
The standard BS EN 13929 is adhered to during these pressurisation tests. The permeability of the air is measured in the following way: cubic metres per hour per square metre of envelope area at 50 pascals (m3/(h.m2) at 50 Pa).

The envelope area is the area that envelops the internal volume – that is, the walls, ceilings and floors of the test area.
Temperature, external wind speed and humidity are some of the measurements taken. These are carried out on calibrated instruments – calibrated annually after commissioning. The data is then analysed and the tests drawn up on bespoke software.

We cover the entire UK. If you have a query or you’re looking for a quotation, phone 07850 410 957 or fill in our online form.
